Purpose
The Robert Vines Medal for Clinical Excellence in Paediatric Endocrinology and the Norman Wettenhall Medal for Research and Innovation were established in 2006 to recognise outstanding ANZSPED members. The ANZSPED Medal for excellence in Nursing, Allied Health or Laboratory Science was added in 2021 to recognise these members of ANZSPED.
These medals are conferred, on a rotating 3 year basis, at a presentation ceremony at the ANZSPED ASM and the original medals were established in honour of Robert Vines and Norman Wettenhall.
Eligibility and criteria
- Medical staff trained and qualified in Paediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology will be eligible for the Robert Vines and Norman Wettenhall Medals.
- Nurses/Allied Health staff or Laboratory Scientists trained and qualified in Paediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology will be eligible for the Nursing, Allied Health or Laboratory Scientists ANZSPED Medal.
- Any ANZSPED financial member for longer than 10 years at the time of AGM.
- Have been an active ANZSPED member i.e. involved in ANZSPED committees/council
- Nominated by 2 financial ANZSPED members. Nomination must include a letter of endorsement, outlining the suitability of the nominee for the medal should accompany each nomination and a recent nominee CV.
- Self-nominations are not accepted
- Recipient of the award may be invited to present at the next in ANZSPED ASM meeting
- No one currently serving on ANZSPED council can be nominated
- No one who has previously received the award can be nominated for the same award.
Criteria related to specific medal
Robert Vines Medal for Clinical Excellence in Paediatric Endocrinology
- Outstanding clinician in paediatric endocrinology
- Clinical mentor and leader
- Extensive career as an advocate for children and adolescents with endocrine disorders
- Involvement in teaching/training from medical school to advance RACP trainees
Norman Wettenhall Medal for Research and Innovation
- Strong research track record and research translation
- Outstanding contribution to mentoring or provision a high level of support and guidance throughout paediatric endocrine training
- Involvement in policy
ANZSPED Medal for Excellence in Nursing, Allied Health or Laboratory Science
- Outstanding nursing or allied health clinician/ researcher in paediatric diabetes and/or endocrinology as a Clinician/Researcher or Teacher/ Mentor and/or Leader
- Significant advocacy for children and adolescents with paediatric diabetes or endocrine disorders
- High order involvement in policy, teaching or training in their area of paediatric diabetes and/or endocrinology.
